'Only because the photographic image resists time is it able to store or represent it. Whereas time is usually seen as continuous, it can only be archived in its discontinuity.'
- Ernst Van Alphen
This project focuses on materiality, process & the fragmentary nature of memory in the context of the photographic archive. It explores the generative potential of the photographic negative, as well as the status of the outtake, creating an experimental body of work using assemblage & repurposed images. The series engages with the archive as an active space of potential reinterpretation; emphasising elements of discontinuity & contingency rather than narrative cohesion.
The format is determined by chronological intervals, with each installment of the project representing a calendar year. The project comprises a range of printed media including darkroom prints, risography, polaroids, & a forthcoming limited artist book edition.
